CLONMEL GOLF CLUB
Morris Oil Open 4Ball
Even with the attraction of Semple Stadium for our Tipperary and Waterford members there was still a very good turnout for the Morris Oil Open 4Ball played over Saturday and Sunday and with very favourable conditions - run on the ball and great greens - good scoring was expected and indeed the winners, John Molloy (15) and Michael Meehan Snr (28), lived up to the expectations with a magnificent 49 pts. Dovetailing well the pair were out in just one over par, with birdies coming at the two par fives giving an outward 26 points. They cooled off a bit on the back nine with just one birdie at the 11th and were four over in total on the nine for a further 23 points. In second place was Joe O’Shea (20) and the in-form Michael McArdle (17) who had 21 points on the front nine but really turned on the style on the inward nine scoring a marvellous two over par for 24 points for their 45 points total. Also on 45 points for third place were Martin Hanton (15) and the Limerickman Patsy Cunningham who reversed the second placed winners score by going out in 24 and home in 21 for 45 points. In fourth place and just a point behind were Simon Kane (15) and John Shanahan (10) with 44 points.
The Club is grateful to Morris Oil for the marvellous sponsorship.

Congrats to Killian Butler, the winner of the 18 hole competition with 41 points. Second was Aidan Hickey. Killian has been in great form lately having just competed in the Munster under 13 close championship. The 12 hole competition was very competitive with Danny Morris pipping Darragh Cronin by 2 points with 24pts and both ahead of a strong chasing pack.
Well done to all who competed and great to see everybody improving their scores on last week. Only two weeks in to the Summer season and competition is already hotting up. With plenty of opportunities and the ‘Majors’ still to come, ‘Golfer of the year’ is going to be hotly contested.
Junior competitions will continue on Thursdays beginning at 9am sharp.

Clonmel Senior Foursomes did us proud on Sunday in Nenagh, our opponents were our old friends Thurles and were a pleasure to play against. With two matches, one apiece, everything came down to the last match. This was fought until the 20th hole and unfortunately for Clonmel, Thurles came out top. Our team of Helen, Katherine, Gemma, Roisin, Deirdre and Bobbi fought hard but it was just not our day. Our hopes for 2017 now lie with our Revive Active team who face Tipperary before the end of July.
Last week’s competition was sponsored by DID from the Poppyfields. Scoring was again superb with Jane Ronan shooting a magnificent 44 points, Catherine Senior second 42 points and Beana Higgins 40 points. The gross was won by Gemma Murphy. The nine-hole competition was won by Ann Leavy with 18 points.
Last week also saw the second competition in our John M Joy &Co sponsored mixed competition. This is proving to be a great success. Draws are held on a Monday evening @ 4.30, 5.00, 530 and 6 pm with the added bonus of a delicious menu provided by Martin in the club. Last week’s winners were Sheila O’Keeffe, Frank O’Keeffe and the sponsor himself John Joy. This is a great way for the ladies and men's sections to mix. Finally, one of our ladies came fourth in the recent over fifties Munster Championships, a wonderful achievement that should inspire us all. This week’s competition is sponsored by Phil Kehoe and is Stableford, please put names on BRS asap.
