 Men’s Results

The Ryan Motor Power Weekend
Saturday - 4Ball Betterball

Thanks to the generous sponsorship of Ryan Motor Power there was a great weekend of golf with a 4Ball Betterball played on Saturday with a good turnout of players and while the early morning weather on Sunday may have caused a few to have a duvet day there was a good entry for the Ryan Motor Power singles also. The 4Ball Betterball was won by Billy Byrne (7) with Noel O’Brien (18) showing a solid return to golf. Their score after the first nine - 19 pts - didn’t have the appearance of a winning score with not a birdie in sight and a double bogey on the second but things certainly hotted up on the back nine for both players. Billy Byrne birdied the 12th - must have been the tip he got last week about his left elbow - and then Noel followed with a great birdie on the par three 14th. Billy struck again with another birdie on the 15th and they could afford the luxury of a bogey on the 18th to add a brilliant back nine of 26 points for a winning total of 45. Just a single point behind in second place was Jim Butler with Paddy Kenrick and a further point back in third was Paddy Ryan with Michael McArdle.
Sunday - 18 Hole Single Stableford.
The singles Stableford was won by Alan Barlow (18). Not a name that’s often seen in the winner’s enclosure but he corrected that situation on this occasion with a fabulous round of very steady golf and had two equal halves of 19 points for a winning total of 38. Alan would say that there was nothing spectacular about his golf and in fact had to wait until the 8th hole for his first par but consistency and scoring points is the name of the game in stableford and Alan had consistency in spades. A very similar scoring pattern on the back nine with good pars on 11, 14 and 16 to add precious points for his 38 total. Hot on Alan’s heels was the consistent Alex Casey who was just pipped by a shot and Alex certainly wasn’t happy about failing to score on the 18th when he saw the overall results.

Monday Evening Mixed

Please note that the Monday evening mixed continues on each Monday but the draw times are now, 4.45, 5.15 and 6.00.

Player of the Year - POY

The POY is progressing nicely and what was beginning to look like a runaway winner after the first two competitions has now become more of a marathon after three rounds. Paul McGee had a very early substantial lead but the more recent results have evened things up ‘a little bit’ with a number of players closing the gap on Paul.
Leaders after Three Competitions:
Paul McGee 46 points
Edgar Lonergan 36 points
Johnny Quinn 36 points
Lar Whelan 36 points
Simon Kane 33 points
Next round of the POY is the President’s (Mr. Michal Mullane) Prize on 7th July

Teams News

Although we had a very strong looking Mixed team on paper the chips did not fall the way one would wish when we went down by three matches to two against Templemore on Saturday last in Tipperary. Our Ladies and Gents put in a very strong challenge with some great individual performances but unfortunately Templemore had all the answers at the right moments.
Next Saturday and Sunday is the turn of the Seniors when the Senior Cup is being played at Faithlegg Golf Club…we wish our team the best of luck.
Up Next
Saturday 23rd June The Lady Captain’s (Ms Liz Binchy) Prize….and we take the opportunity to wish Liz all the very best for her big day. Gents please note that there are a limited number of slots available for men on the BRS for general play and we ask all men to respect the biggest day in
the Ladies Calendar

Monday May 28, 2018

Glorious Weather for the 1st Day of the AIG Munster Ladies Senior Cup.

Taking on a strong Lahinch team,( who were victorious against Cork on Sunday morning,)
Killarney came out as winners of the Munster Senior Cup. There was a very high standard of golf
over the weekend. 11 team, caddies, supporters descended, on Clonmel Golf Club over the 2
days. Teams from Lahinch, Killarney, Cork, Douglas, Clonmel, East Cork, Muskerry, Mallow,
Ballybunion, Castletroy & Limerick Golf Club took part. Lady Captain Liz Binchy and her Senior

evening to ensure that everything ran smoothly. The weather was glorious on Saturday, with
Douglas, Lahinch, Killarney and Cork making it through to the Semi Final on Sunday.
Winter condition prevailed on Sunday, but that didn’t upset the top Munster teams. Killarney’s
Mairead Martin (+2) was taking on Lahinch’s Sinead Sexton also +2. Mairead won on the 18th.
Mairead is a 19yr who is doing her Leaving Cert in June. She is off to Kentucky University (USA)
in September on a Scholarship. A future Michele Wee!! Valerie Clancy, (Scr) Killarney took Aine
Donegan (1) Lahinch down the 19th. Valerie won. Valerie is 17 and is heading to Indiana University
(USA ) in Sept 2019 on a Scolarship. Next down the 19th was Kelly Brotherton (Scr) Killarney and
Sara Cunningham (1) Lahinch. They halved. On the 18th at the same time was Tracy Keating (2)
Killarney and Niamh O’Dwyer (3) Lahinch. Tracy was 1 up coming up the 18th. She putted for a
win, crowing Killarney Golf Club, Senior Cup Champions. It was an experience to watch high
quality golf over the weekend.

There was a great atmosphere in Clonmel Golf Club throughout the weekend. Lady Captain Liz
Binchy and her Senior Cup Committee put in a huge amount of work to ensure everything went off
smoothly over the weekend. Preparation for this event started when the club were informed they
were hosting the event last year. The Club House was looking great, thanks to Mary Smyth for
her arrangement of flowers on the balcony and outside the Club house. Maura Morrison for
beautiful arrangement in the Club House. Ned Lonergan & Frank had the course in excellent
condition and this was commented on by the visiting team over the weekend. Mens Captain Tony
Horne was spotted raking Bunkers at 6am on Saturday morning, 34 bunkers in total. Betty and her
team were on duty early on Saturday and Sunday morning in the Car Park to ensure that the traffic
ran smoothly.

Lady Captain, Liz Binchy, thanked her Senior Cup Committee, Mens Captain Tony Horne, Ladies
& Gent Members for all their help over the weekend, Martin, Michael & Staff in Catering for the
fabulous array of food. She thanked the ILGU officials, who were on hand over the weekend. And
last but not least she thanked the Clonmel Senior Team, Roisin Quinlivan, Katherine Morrissey,
Gemma Murphy, Deirdre Ronan, Anna Moloney & Bobbi Holohan, their Manager Maura Cooney,
caddies & supporters. The team put up a great fight against East Cork, with Katherine & Roisin
